Shaggy has been seen wearing a red shirt and blue jeans in four 1980s Scooby-Doo productions:
The Saturday morning series: The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo
and three TV movies: Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers, Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, and Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf.
In Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase, the gang get beamed into a virtual video game, and meet there video game counter parts in the final level, showing Shaggy's double wearing a Red Shirt and Blue Jeans from when the character wore back in the 1980's.
further more I took the liberty of looking into the Ghoul school cover on VHS and DVD, you'll notice on the front shaggy has a Green Shirt. But on the back it shows him with a Red Shirt and I watched the entire movie on both VHS and DVD and no reference of a green shirt is made.
This isn't the only misprint.. no. If you take a Look at the art work on Scooby Doo meets the Boo Brothers and Scooby Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf, Shaggy is wearing a Green shirt but on the back it shows him wearing a red shirt and just to make sure I watched both Movies... they never show shaggy wearing a green shirt, its just all red.
To make absolute sure I didn't miss anything I tried tracking down other Versions of the VHS tapes and let me tell you theres something fishing going on.
Firstly I Focused all my attention on Ghoul School, so I found 4 Versions of the VHS tape in Pal, because if I went with all regions we be here forever.
First One, the one we all know because its similar to the DVD cover design, thats basic, simple and easy to remember the most from our childhood.
Second One, is where they had some VHS tapes in cardboard sleeves, think of these as slipcovers from the past. Now this is the first one that shows shaggy wearing a red shirt on the front, back and through the movie, now if I watched this and it shows shaggy wearing a Green shirt in the movie and a red shirt on the box then im seriously been sucked into a alternate scooby doo universe where nothing makes sense.
Third One, is the same as the second one, similar design but instead of in a sleep cover sleeve its in a plastic container, something you'd see a sega game in. now this one shows shaggy wearing a red shirt as well on the front, back and throughout the movie. but this cover design is somewhat rare and goes for quite a bit only and hard to find, believe me while looking for research it took me an hour to find one item of this listed online for a ridiculous price.
Fourth One, now this is the last on our list, and this one is ultra rare, I could only find images of the VHS:
This VHS and cover is extremely rare to find, Ive search through forums, online chat pages to cos-play girls wearing Velma costumes... dont ask about that... and even resorted to Myspace. The front cover shows shaggy in a red shirt, all scared, and I dont blame him, even I wouldn't like to be a teacher of ghouls. The back doesn't show him at all, instead it shows the ghoul students from the movie, and since I dont have this VHS I cant watch it, so I cant really tell if it shows shaggy wearing a green shirt or red one. But if I have to guess, then I bet this is the VHS tape that shows shaggy with a green shirt or explains the origins of the red shirt... but these are all guesses.
I dont understand why the art work was changed, because the re-issued VHS got art work showing shaggy in a green shirt and that started this conspiracy but when they release the tape on DVD they had the chance to do it right but instead they copied the VHS re-issue design and that made the theory more complicated.
I thought the answers would be debunked on the Cyber chase movie but no, they just toyed with use and gave us the middle finger, making our second guess all our theories and solutions to never ending question cycles..
You thought that was the end of it? well no it isn't, upon further research, I decided to go take a look at the Menu screen for Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers, Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, and Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf for DVD. Whilst looking them over I noticed that when they did the menus for each of them, they included shaggy wearing the Green Shirt... even though they are presented wearing the Red shit in the movie and also include images showing Shaggy in a red shirt on the back of the DVD's.
I have no idea why they did this, because when they started releasing them onto DVD's they had to make the menu from scratch, meaning they had people draw the art work and work on the animations, but out off all people who work on the DVD's not one of them knew about the red shirt faze that shaggy was wearing in the movies? Now this might be a common mistake but these arent just Scooby Doo movies that weren't good enough to remember in detail, these wear movies that started a chain of more movies to come.
